The Odem Owl Powerlifting Team finished in a 3rd place tie with Stockdale at the Goliad Tiger Powerlifting Invitational, held on Saturday in Goliad. Daniel Tamez led the way for the Owls, finishing in 1st place in the 242 pound weight class with a total of 1190 pounds. Mark Moreno finished in 2nd place for Odem in the 148 pound weight class with a total of 915 pounds. Third-place finishers for the Owls were John Espinoza in the 165 pound weight class (855 pound total), Landon Garza in the 220 pound weight class (1155 pound total), and Nico Chavira in the 275 pound weight class (1175 pound total). James Adams (148 pound weight class, 770 pound total) and Alex Beltran (181 pound weight class, 740 pound total) were fourth-place finishers for Odem while Brandon Beltran finished in 5th place in the 220 pound weight class for Odem with a total of 1140 pounds. “I am really proud of how hard our kids competed today,” head coach Jack Barber said. “They battled and fought through adversity during the course of this meet and finished with some good totals heading into our next meet. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season holds for this bunch of hard-working young men.” The Owls’ next meet will be on Thursday, January 21st in Mathis with lifting scheduled to begin at approximately 5:30 P.M.
